Grandmaster’s Court is a proprietary Bluegrass Fragrance Company blend created from two authentic Vilhelm Parfumerie Eau de Parfum fragrances: Great Lord and Morning Chess. The composition brings together the luminous bergamot and green leather character of Morning Chess with the plum, mandarin, cardamom, saffron, dark leather and amber richness of Great Lord.

The result is a polished fresh-leather fragrance with contrasting citrus, fruit, greenery, spice and warmth. Bright bergamot and galbanum sharpen the opening, while plum and mandarin introduce a richer fruitiness. Leather runs through the heart, surrounded by saffron, violet, oakmoss and aromatic facets before patchouli, amber, musk and a touch of sweetness create a deeper drydown.

A Grandmaster’s Court sample or travel-size decant is ideal for shoppers who enjoy sophisticated leather fragrances or already appreciate Great Lord or Morning Chess and want to experience how their contrasting profiles interact. Grandmaster’s Court is independently created by Bluegrass Fragrance Company and is not an official Vilhelm Parfumerie fragrance.

What Does Grandmaster’s Court Smell Like?

Grandmaster’s Court opens with an immediate contrast between Morning Chess's crisp bergamot and Great Lord's richer plum, Italian mandarin and cardamom. The effect is bright and energetic without becoming a simple citrus fragrance, because fruit, green nuances and aromatic spice begin adding depth almost immediately.

The heart centers strongly on leather. Morning Chess contributes Tuscan leather and sharp green galbanum, while Great Lord adds darker leather surrounded by saffron, violet, oakmoss, immortelle and osmanthus. Together, these elements create a layered leather profile that moves between fresh greenery, dry spice, subtle florals and earthy depth.

Patchouli connects the two source fragrances in the drydown. Black amber, additional amber, musk and pink sugar gradually add warmth and smoothness, giving Grandmaster’s Court a richer finish than Morning Chess alone while retaining more freshness and lift than Great Lord worn by itself.

Grandmaster’s Court vs. Great Lord and Morning Chess

Morning Chess is the brighter and greener source fragrance. Its official structure is concise, pairing bergamot with Tuscan leather and galbanum before settling into patchouli and black amber.

Great Lord is considerably more layered, combining plum, mandarin and cardamom with dark leather, violet, saffron, oakmoss, immortelle and osmanthus over patchouli, amber, pink sugar and musk.

Grandmaster’s Court combines these two personalities. Morning Chess contributes brightness, green tension and a streamlined leather character, while Great Lord adds fruit, spice, floral detail, additional leather depth and a warmer amber-musk finish.

Grandmaster’s Court is not a Vilhelm Parfumerie flanker or official variation of either fragrance. It is an independent blend created by Bluegrass Fragrance Company from the two authentic source fragrances.

Performance and Best Occasions

The combination of citrus, green notes, leather, spice, patchouli and amber gives Grandmaster’s Court a versatile character that can transition from daytime into evening. The bergamot and galbanum provide freshness, while leather, saffron, patchouli and amber add enough richness for dressier settings and cooler weather.

Grandmaster’s Court can suit dinners, date nights, social events, evenings out and occasions where a more distinctive leather fragrance feels appropriate. A lighter application can also make it suitable for polished daytime or office wear.

Longevity, projection, and sillage can vary depending on skin chemistry, application, climate, environment, and the interaction of the two source fragrances on the wearer.

Why Try a Grandmaster’s Court Sample?

Blending two finished fragrances can create a scent experience that differs significantly from wearing either fragrance independently. A Grandmaster’s Court sample allows you to experience how the crisp bergamot, green galbanum and Tuscan leather of Morning Chess interact with Great Lord's plum, spice, dark leather, saffron, amber and musk on your own skin.

Sampling is especially useful for fragrance enthusiasts who already enjoy one of the two Vilhelm Parfumerie fragrances and want to explore a richer, more layered interpretation without committing to a larger amount first.

Available Sizes and Estimated Sprays

Authenticity and Decanting

Each Grandmaster’s Court decant sold by Bluegrass Fragrance Company is created using fragrance transferred from authentic original bottles of Vilhelm Parfumerie Great Lord and Morning Chess. No additional diluent is intentionally added, and the source fragrances are not otherwise reformulated or intentionally altered.

The two authentic fragrances are independently combined by Bluegrass Fragrance Company. Each order is then hand-filled into a glass atomizer and carefully packaged for convenient application, storage, and travel.

Grandmaster’s Court is an independent Bluegrass Fragrance Company proprietary blend and is not manufactured, formulated or bottled by Vilhelm Parfumerie.

Is Grandmaster’s Court diluted?

No additional diluent is intentionally added by Bluegrass Fragrance Company. Grandmaster’s Court consists of the two authentic source fragrances combined together.

Are the original Vilhelm Parfumerie bottles included?

What does Grandmaster’s Court smell like?

Fragrance Care & Warm-Weather Delivery

Fragrance—whether in a decant, travel spray, or full bottle—is best experienced and stored at room temperature.

If your fragrance arrives warm:

  • Bring the package inside as soon as possible.
  • Allow the fragrance to return to room temperature for several hours, or overnight, before spraying.
  • Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Do not refrigerate or freeze it.

A fragrance exposed to warm transit conditions may smell slightly different while it is still warm. Once it has cooled and rested, it should smell and perform as intended. For the vast majority of shipments, temporary warmth during delivery is not a cause for concern.

Every fragrance is carefully inspected and packaged before shipment.
